Job Summary

Large, well established, multi facility bakery manufacturer is looking for an experienced scheduler/purchaser with food manufacturing exprience and knowledge. Offering competitive salary and benefits. 

PURPOSE: The Scheduler/Purchaser is a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our bakery manufacturing processes. This position is responsible for planning production schedules, managing inventory levels, and procuring raw materials and supplies to meet production demands. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance cost efficiency with quality and timeliness.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to meet customer orders and inventory targets.
  • Coordinate with production, sales, and logistics teams to ensure schedules align with demand forecasts and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules as needed to address delays, equipment issues, or changes in demand.
  • Optimize production schedules to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.

Purchasing & Procurement:

  • Source and purchase raw materials, packaging, and other supplies required for bakery production.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality compliance.
  • Monitor market trends and pricing for key ingredients (e.g., flour, sugar, eggs) to anticipate cost fluctuations.

Inventory Management:

  • Track inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Implement inventory control systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with the production team to ensure materials are available for scheduled runs.
  • Communicate with sales and customer service teams to address order changes or special requests.
  • Provide regular updates to management on production schedules, inventory status, and purchasing activities.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies and food safety regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory, and production schedules.
  • Generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as on-time delivery, cost savings, and inventory turnover.
  • SQF Compliance- This position is responsible for reporting food safety and quality problems to the supervisor, The SQF Practioner or directly to senior management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in production scheduling, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, HACCP, PCQI, SQF Class and Food GMP implementation (in a bakery environment preferred).

SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of production planning and inventory management principles.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, FDA, USDA) is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a commitment to continuous improvement.
